Dear Lakeside Family,

As we move into the winter season, I wanted to take a moment to recap the fall as there was plenty going on around the church that should be celebrated:

The Board and I made an appeal to you about our finances, and you all really showed how generous Lakeside is and the power of our collective work. We raised $21,000 and moved our bank account out of an extreme danger zone. Your gifts meant we could continue to pay our teachers, we can continue to open our doors to ministry opportunities, and we can continue to serve our neighbors.

For example, we have had several families who started the school this fall who commented on how much love they feel at Lakeside, and how much more their children have learned here! In addition, we hosted a fun Youth Leadership Academy session that included Humble ISD students learning about their place in shaping their community through advocacy. They learned from leaders representing the district, city, and federal level. We have also watched our children practice on Sundays for the Christmas play and learn about the birth of Jesus!  Plus, we hosted the Pumpkin Patch for the second year in a row. Thank you to all the volunteers who gave time to the patch! We sold just over $5,000 in pumpkins and we get to keep 25% of that total or $1310! 

Along with your immediate gifts, our church pledge goal increased from last year by over $50,000 to a total of $228,000. If we meet that pledge amount, we will be in much better shape going forward. The Board is looking for new ways to keep you updated with the pledge goal and where we stand in relation to the budget as we begin the new year. There is so much to thank God for and we want you to keep up with it all.

Thank you for giving to Lakeside and loving our community the way you do. I know that it has been a place of blessing to many people in Summerwood and the surrounding Humble area! I can't wait to see what we will do in 2025!

Invite a friend, a family member, and enemy you want to make peace with, and the kids next door. Christmas is nearly upon us and we hope to see you on Christmas Eve for our candlelight service. Sing, hear the word, and rekindle friendships. December 24 at 5:00pm. If you are out of town on Christmas Eve, or just want a bit more Christmas, come to A Lakeside Christmas on December 18 at 7:00pm.

There is a scandal in the small coastal town. The fishermen have heard the news, the builders are talking over lunch break, the women whisper in the market. Within the scandal, there is a story of courage and faith, of trusting in God and learning on the fly. Mary knew, and we can learn from the first Christmas story, a powerful message for today. I hope to see you and learn from Mary this Advent season. 

Read through the Gospel of Luke this December. If you start tomorrow, you can read one chapter a day and end on Christmas Eve. Celebrate the reason for the season with the Gospel of Luke.
